Wayne State University requires all F-1 and J-1 International Students and Scholars, along with their dependents, to enroll in the OISS International Health Insurance Plan (IHIP) through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, managed by Gallagher Student Health. This includes Canadian F-1 students living in the US and J-1 Canadian students and scholars. 

Insurance can be purchased for a semester or annually, with online payment options available. The annual policy coverage year runs from August 1 to July 31, so make sure to renew your insurance in time to retain your coverage.

Annual: 5/16/2024 - 10/31/2024 

Fall: 5/16/2024 - 10/31/2024 

Winter: 10/1/2024 – 3/31/2025 

Winter/Spring/Summer: 10/1/2024 – 3/31/2025 

Summer I: 2/1/2024 – 7/31/2025 

Summer II: 5/16/2024 – 07/31/2024 

ID cards will be mailed out by Blue Cross Blue Shield on the plan's effective date, or within 3 weeks of enrollment in the plan, whichever is later.

ID Card

ID cards are mailed to students once enrollment is received to the mailing address on file, and ID cards are also processed and available online by the coverage start date or 2-3 weeks after enrolling, whichever is later. To obtain an online ID card:

·           Once logged into the portal, you can:

Campus Health Center

The Campus Health Center (CHC) is available for your healthcare needs while you are a student at Wayne State University. Located at: 5285 Anthony Wayne Dr. (at the corner of Kirby and Anthony Wayne Dr.) Detroit, MI 48202.  Parking: Structures #2 and #5 are closest to the clinic. Street parking may be available.

3 Important Enrollment Information

You must meet eligibility and attendance requirements set by your school to purchase or waive this insurance coverage. The insurance company and/or Gallagher Insurance, Risk Management and Consulting (the "Company") maintains the right to investigate student (and dependent) status and attendance records to verify that the policy eligibility requirements have been met. If and whenever the Company discovers that the policy eligibility requirements have not been met, our only obligation is to refund premium payment, minus any claims paid. By enrolling in this plan you are agreeing to your insurance carrier’s binding arbitration policies listed in the plan brochure. It is a crime to knowingly provide false, incomplete, or misleading information to an insurance company for the purposes of defrauding the company. Penalties include imprisonment, fines, and denial of insurance benefits. If your University is located in Washington State, the definition of Spouse includes Washington State Registered Domestic Partner.

*All refund requests must be sent to the University who will confirm nonstudent status with JCB, and submit the refund request on behalf of the student. The refund deadline is 45 days after the Insurance term start date. Only refunds submitted by the University before the refund deadline will be considered. Credit card refunds must be requested within 120 days of the date of purchase and before the refund deadline. No refunds will be considered after the refund deadline. All refunds will incur a $35 processing fee. *Does not apply to University of Michigan.
